Who are we?

History

About 15 years ago a group of women, whose children were playing musical instruments, decided they wanted to play together for fun. Some of them used to play when they were children but then life happened and somehow the instrument got buried. Some had always wanted to play an instrument but had never got round to it. One of the group was a music specialist and could write parts to suit the level and experience of the players. Some members had tried other music groups/orchestras but often found a pressure to perform that took some of the fun out of playing.

Where are we now?

The group has a core of 10 to 12 players with others coming occasionally. Two of the members are almost founder members. We advertise ourselves as welcoming “rusty returners” and “late beginners”. Sometimes we have a “director” and other times we lead ourselves. Most of all we are there to have fun and to enjoy playing music at whatever level.

The Noisy Women

The current make up of the group is:

In the past we have also had – recorders, violins, viola, accordion, horn and oboe. A lot of us do not practise between one Thursday and the next but still enjoy ourselves!
